The report read Breaking New earlier this morning, when the news that Nick Bockwinkel has passed away at the age of 80 years old. Nick was an incredible talent during time in the ring and was the Ric Flair of Minnesota. He was the leader of the AWA with Verne Gagne. With Verne leading way with in ring skill and Nick balanced it out being the complete package and showed it every night. It didn't matter if it was Nick by himself or in tandem with Ray "The Crippler" Stevens was still the man of Minnesota.
Minnesota, was the home base of the AWA from the mid 1960's - 1991 when the company went bankrupt. Nick remained with the company from day 1 to the end. Nick was the promo master of his day and talked more people into the arena the just about anyone of the era. Though the old saying is some guys were designed to be regional stars and couldn't make it on a national scale well Nick wasn't one of those people. Now we look around and see that Nick has been added to that never event in the sky and now many dream matches never thought possible can happen again. The promo master is back at work once again talking people into the arenas forever and always. Now I say goodbye to one of the greats, so long Nick and God Speed!!!
RIP Nick Bockwinkel
1934 - 2015
Gone But Never Forgotten
Thanks for the Memories
I love looking back wrestling's past. I view my job as bring new life to the part of wrestling some people thought was gone.
