The smaller companies have always been somewhat of feeder systems for the larger companies as they for the most part can't gain the exclusive rights for talent due to them lacking the financial standing to do so. In the past ROH had a tough time maintaining top stars when they were a young company as they developed talent like Daniel Bryan, Cesaro, Eddie Edwards, Davey Richards, Samoa Joe, and numerous other talent that achieved tremendous success in other companies. The last major loss for ROH was when The Wolves were taken at first by the WWE and then ended up being signed by TNA wrestling.
Since then Ring of Honor has had a influx of money and has been able to build a roster of not just regulars but they also helped further develop some of the biggest names in wrestling. Also since the last major talent departure they have been a part of a very successful working agreement with New Japan and very recently CMLL was also added to the working agreement at least with ROH. Recently rumors have ran through the Interwebs that the WWE is looking at ROH for a little bit of a talent raid. Even though at this point thus far the WWE has only signed Nigel there have been big rumors of Steve Corino, Kyle O' Reilly, Adam Cole and others possibly moving to the company. I think that if someone like Kyle does leave the company it wouldn't be a bad thing for them because it would allow the company to continue to grow and change to stay ahead of the competition and keep their main event scene on the fresh side and give it a shot in the arm in may need.
