A few weeks ago I wrote about Jimmy Jacobs leaving Ring of Honor to become a part of the WWE creative team. As of day or so ago it became official and it became known that this weekends ROH show would be his last show on the Indies before going to the WWE. It has been stated by numerous sites that Jimmy will begin with the WWE in early April as a part of the creative team. Right now whether he will begin with NXT or right with the Main Roster is unknown, but one would have to assume he is beginning with NXT due to his lack of experience with the WWE style.
This post is my of saying Thank You to Jimmy Jacobs after years of him giving everything had every night he got in the ring in whatever company he was working for on that night. Jimmy is one of the best talkers on the independent circuit and in my book will only help WWE wrestlers get better at talking as long as he is given the opportunity. Though it may not be as Active Wrestler, Jimmy still is being given the opportunity to make WWE a better place.
Thank You Jimmy Jacobs
Now I did this with Samoa Joe and it seemed to work out quite well as it gave a glimpse into which shows Joe would be at. So I though why not do the same thing with Alberto El Patron and maybe even give some insight into what El Patron has been up to. Since leaving the WWE last year Alberto has been quite successful, it seems like he is really happy now and loving what he is doing again. Last December El Patron was able to win the AAA World Heavyweight title from El Texano Jr.
Alberto El Patron is confirmed to be returning to ROH at the April 4th show in San Antonio, TX as a part of The Conquest Tour. Right now it is unannounced who El Patron will be facing, but I would assume we will find out soon enough.
A few days ago I wrote about the fact that rumors have been jolting around that the WWE is looking to sign various ROH talent once they are no longer under contract to the company. Apparently the WWE didn't just have the intention of signing ROH to be active wrestlers but they were interested in them as non-wrestlers or writers also. The wrestler that WWE seems to be interested to be apart of their creative team is former Multi-Time Tag Team Champion Jimmy Jacobs.
Jimmy returned to ROH in 2011 as a part of the stable SCUM with Kevin Steen, Steve Corino, Matt Hardy, Rhett Titus, Rhino, and others. SCUM tried to put the final nail in ROH's coffin many times, but was never successful as ROH just kept fitting back. Around the summer of 2013, SCUM disbanded after losing a Cage Match to Team ROH and Jimmy then moved into limbo. Currently Jimmy is apart of the stable called the Decade, which formed on the basis of certain ROH constants being tired of people being celebrated when they leave the company.
Now I will admit outside of knowing that Jimmy is very good on the microphone, I don't really know to much about him, what I can the say is that Jimmy has been working at this since 1999 when he entered the wrestling business. But I feel in ROH Jimmy is nothing more then just the mouthpiece of the Decade. With that being said I think him joining WWE's creative team will be great for all parties especially Jimmy. Apparently contract talks have been ongoing for a while now and it is said that Jimmy's last event with ROH will likely be the WrestleMania Weekend events, as Jimmy is projected to start with WWE in April.
That being said let's now look back at some of Jimmy Best Moments in ROH:
Over the course of the last few days word has come out that WWE is looking at offering contracts to several ROH talent when their ROH contracts expire. WWE decided to do this because they have realized that training wrestlers from scratch isn't the easiest thing in the world and so they have decided to bring in talent who already have training. Another reason is because they are planning on brining certain people to the Main Roster and want to replace them with top indie stars who are already having good matches much like the guys down in NXT are.
Now I do agree with the idea that this is bad for ROH because they could be losing some top talents and it could hurt the company tremendously. But taking the perspective I took when I was talking about Joe leaving TNA, sometimes it's good for talent who have done everything in the company and have nothing left to accomplish to move on to greener pastures somewhere else. With the amount of new, known, talent that have worldwide exposure that WWE has given to the independents it might be a fair trade.
Let me get this out of the way, as of this writing it seems as though the WWE's interest in The Briscoe Brother's have returned and Dem Boys seem like they are at the top of the WWE's list when it comes to ROH Talent. Looking back at the idea of people doing everything they can in one company and it being time to move on to somewhere new, I think the Briscoe's fall into that category. I can here many people right now saying why would you want to see the Briscoe's go to WWE and have their legacy destroyed. To those people I will say if your a fan of them you will want them to become the biggest stars they can which is sadly one thing they can't accomplish in ROH. Staying on the indies though it helps the indies isn't usually everyone's dream who gets into the wrestling industry.
Right now don't be alarmed because in my book it's rumors of who WWE is interested in and not, "Oh The Briscoe's are leaving ROH let the tour begin." No!! not yet at least. I have heard about this in various places, this might be wrong for me to say but I am not the reporting as I am not a dirt-sheet this is just my opinion. It is very likely that WWE may not just be taking a couple of contracts it likely depends on how many people they are looking at in reality it could be something similar to WWE taking from ECW back in the day. In my book the biggest new coming out of the Anniversary show last weekend is that Samoa Joe after 10 years gone has finally made his return to Ring of Honor. Now on the heels of Joe possibly signing with the WWE we need to enjoy all the time we have with him as a free agent on the indies. Joe's upcoming matches are going to be great matches and are sure to be highlights of each show that he is on. Starting with:
Saturday March 7 in Baltimore- Samoa Joe's opponent
One half of the ROH World Tag Team Champions: Kyle O' Riley- Kyle was at first nothing more then a jobber but following an opportunity to show what he can do and just how good he is Kyle changed to a legitimate part of ROH. Kyle's career started taking off when he began teaming with Davey Richards, but there was a peak on that team and when he reached it something changed. People realized Kyle had untapped potential and began thinking of ways to tap into that potential and they found it when Kyle started teaming with Bobby Fish. Nowadays when tag team wrestling is a shell of it's former shelf Kyle & Bobby give us a breath of fresh air and show how good tag team wrestling could be if given a chance. Together known as ReDragon, Fish & O' Riley show that tag team wrestling can make two people stars and bring out the best of both teammates. I think of the two matches upcoming this one will be better because I feel as though Joe & Kyle will mesh together better in the match and it will look better.
Friday March 13 in Milwaukee- Samoa Joe's opponent
ACH- This kid has become not only one of the top rising stars in ROH but in wrestling in general. Very few people especially now can duplicate the athletic ability that ACH displays in the ring and if you have never seen him work then your missing something. In my book there is no surprise why ROH management have been giving ACH a "push" for the last few months or so though he might be young the push is still deserved. Much his match against AJ Styles at the Anniversary 13 show this match against Joe will continue to show how much faith ROH has in ACH to become something special, because they are giving him every chance to do giving all of these big matches. Much like I said earlier I believe Joe's match with Kyle will be the better of his two upcoming matches, nothing against ACH I just think that Joe-Kyle fit better together. This match will still be quite good and will do the job of putting ACH over as the future of the company in great fashion.
Which match are you looking forward to more? Which match do you think will be better?
Last night following the Anniversary show one thing jumped into the minds of ROH fans and that is what is in line for the future following Anniversary 13. Well Dream Matches could be on tap for the future of ROH for thing considering former ROH World Champion Samoa Joe returned to the company last night and declared he wants a shot at the ROH World Title. In my opinion the future of Ring of Honor has never been brighter than it is right now.
At the Anniversary show ROH teased a future match between ROH World Champion Jay Briscoe and Samoa Joe. With Joe coming out following the main event and having a stare down with current World Champion Jay Briscoe the idea of a future match between these two ROH legends is something to be excited about. The uncertain thing about this match is when it will take place as the word is that it will happen at Best in the World this June, but the uncertainty comes from whether or not Joe ends up in NXT. If Samoa Joe ends signing on with NXT this match may not happen, but if things work out, maybe Joe can sign following this match even just stay with Ring of Honor.
The other news coming out of Anniversary 13 is that ROH & New Japan Pro-Wrestling are planning to run either one or two co-promoted events this May. If you want to talk about Dream Matches happening that is something that was provided in many ways with this co-promoted event last year, one match that comes to mind is Shinsuke Nakamura vs Kevin Steen which was actually getting "This is Awesome" chants before the match even started which should tell you something.
