Let the randomness continue as we look back at whatever old matches I can find on the WWE's Youtube channel. The reason that I select matches off of the WWE's channel is this way the match would be less likely be pulled due to copyright claims & force me to replace the video. This is the reason for the random matches, but also I have done this in the past and just wanted to do something very different then I have done in previous years. In the past I have leaned on the famous matches from Wrestlemania's past like Undertaker vs Shawn Michaels from Wrestlemania 25 or Ricky Steamboat vs Randy Savage from Wrestlemania III. However, the lineage of these matches are over played and other matches really do deserve some of the spotlight. Looking at this years Wrestlemania though it is interesting to note that this will be Rey Mysterio's first Wrestlemania since his departure from the company in 2015. This will also be Kurt Angle's last Wrestlemania competing in his final match as active competitor. At this time Randy was still early in his push and this was before he found his footing as a main event talent. This about a year ahead of Randy's massive push that he would be given the following year officially becoming the "Viper." Now he is preparing for a dream match of sorts against AJ Styles at this years Wrestlemania. The Orton vs Styles match is one of the few I am actually interested this year on the big event it will be interesting to see how things go.

It is incredible to see how far things have come for the cruiserweight division from the days of Austin Aries and Neville to now with Buddy Murphy leading the charge. At this point Aries and Neville were leading a lackluster division that from the perspective of the fans looked like WWE didn't really care about. Even though Neville had been the hottest heel in the company for the last few months it was puzzling how little the company seemed to care. This is would really become a controversial match as it would become the match that would be the main reason that Austin Aries would leave the company after having his match bumped from the Wrestlemania DVD. Now not being featured on a DVD may not seem like a big idea, but when you think about the underlying idea of that without the DVD there was no Mania bonus for Neville or Aries. It is debated if this started a downward spiral for Neville and his WWE tenure or not, but I would expect that it did. Comparing this match to the first match I picked out for the hype it is a completely different match then the other one. Either way though it will be interesting to see how different this year will be for the once struggling division. It's that time of year again when we jump back in the wrestling time machine and look at different Wrestlemania matches over the years. This is something I've done since I started the site and even though I've tried to do it for other PPV's too there is just something about Wrestlemania that makes this PPV just something special. With that being said let's see the match I found to start the hype for this years show!! This is the first match I saw listed on the WWE's page after searching Wrestlemania and I didn't see a point to keep looking. In my opinion this match was perfection and like a gift from the wrestling gods; from start to finish this feud was booked incredibly well and the pay off was something nobody could've expected ever. The amount of raw emotion in the arena on this night from the Undertaker losing the streak earlier in the show to the sight of Daniel Bryan closing the show as World Champion makes this one of the greatest Mania's in recent memory. Even though I am sure a lot of people look at a match like Savage vs Steamboat as their go to and that's mine as far as in ring competition, but nothing other than maybe Michaels vs Undertaker can touch this match because of the amount of raw emotion we get from this match. Wrestlemania is almost here let's get excited!!! |
