Recently, I have been taking a different approach to building up some hype for this years installment of the WWE 2K game series. At this point we do have a trailer but the game still has at least three months before the game will appear on store shelves. The last match I found was Brock Lesnar vs Samoa Joe in the Great Balls of Fire arena for the WWE Universal title. But now we dial things back and give the spotlight to one match that in many respects could be considered a dream match between two legends.
Now for the benefit of those with flash photography it's time for a "Five second pose" for the WWE World Heavyweight title.
In recent years the WWE has seemed to have an issue with giving "New Stars" that push to make them seem more special and to help them reach the level of the stars of the past did. But one thing always blocked them and that was they wanted the already established star to take the cover. In recent years names like Brock Lesnar, Steve Austin, and John Cena have graced the cover of the WWE games which hasn't really helped other talent get more attention for themselves in the gamer world.
The reason this is important is not just because it is sort of like the company is telling a star that they are giving them the ball, but also it allows a talent like Seth Rollins to get more attention. For example, if a former fan sees the game and Seth on the cover they maybe intrigue or if someone who watched Seth before he came to WWE sees Rollins on the cover they maybe more like to give it a chance. Basically, giving Rollins cover allows him to be in the eyes of casual fans just as much as regular fans which is something a "New star" has needed since Punk was on the cover of WWE 2013.
I for one am very happy that Rollins got the cover because I feel like it is WWE's way of saying that they aren't going to lean on the stars of the past as much anymore and may given guys like Rollins the chance they deserve. But like the WWE well have to wait and see what happens in the future.
