The wrestling business has seen people from various walks of life try there hand in the ring from Firemen, to baseball players, to numerous football players, to basketball players, and now a Soccer player. Though the WWE already has a former soccer player in NXT they are said to be looking at signing another. Currently, Hugo Knox is the only former soccer player that has a contract with the WWE, if your a soccer fan then you may remember him as Stuart Tomlinson who played European Soccer for 10 years from 2003-2013 spending a majority of his career with Crewe Alexandra. In 2013 Knox left professional soccer behind him to come to the United States and sign with the WWE with a developmental contract.
Now the rumors have been flying for almost a year about another former European Soccer player coming to the WWE to join NXT. Much like Knox, the other former player is also a goalie and actually spent 15 years playing soccer professionally before retiring in mid 2014. The former player is German star Tim Wiese who actually was a part of the 2010 FIFA World Cup team for Germany as the goalie. Though, Tim has claimed that he signed with WWE in the fall of last year nothing as of this writing has been made official as it pertains to him signing a contract.
This is exactly what I had been saying that TNA needed to do for years because of the fact that he is an unknown in wrestling, but known in other places. Doing this would speed up the process of building a new star, but the problem is with athletes from other sports is they need to be taught from scratch rather then continuing previous experience. However, I do believe that if WWE can land Tim it could prove beneficial to them if they ever chose to take NXT internationally as both Tim & Hugo (Stuart) may still have drawing power across the pond from their days in soccer.
