Last month at the Battleground PPV we the fans were shocked to see the United States title match end with John Cena still the champion as opposed to the ending many of us saw coming, and some us were dying to see Kevin Owens winning. Fact of the matter is everyone is crying foul (including me) as I don't believe the right choice was made at Battleground because Owens would have been a great choice to defeat Cena. However, we later found out the likely explanation for Owens losing is because Cena was set to challenge Seth Rollins for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship at Summerslam and they wanted to keep him strong.
So this begs the question is Owens push over with or is just on hold for the moment. Well where do we start is it his in ring ability or microphone skills well Josh Dillon from The Altered Angle sure doesn't think so here is what he had to say: "Kevin Owens is the real deal. He is the best heel in the company right now and it's not even close. Owens was my favorite guy to watch in ROH. He is great on the mic. He comes across as a legit badass and is a believable character." I for one couldn't agree with Josh more as Kevin Owens has been a breath of fresh air since being called up and is one of the better talents to enter WWE in a long time. Then if it's not his talents on camera did he do something off camera that could have caused management to sour on Owens. Well the only thing that really comes to mind is the fact that ROH has a Kevin Owens action figure coming out in their first action figure series. There were rumors going around that Vince was mad about the fact that he wasn't going to have the ability to be the first to release a Kevin Owens action figure. I believe that Vince may have soured on Kevin for this reason, but I am not totally sure and like I always say it might pay to just see what happens. However, Josh Dillon from The Altered Angle has a different opinion: "My guess this is just ROH trying to capitalize on the fact that Owen's has been introduced to millions of people who never heard of him before his main roster debut and this feud with Cena. It's a good business decision." So from Josh's point of view if I am looking at this correct he believes that the action figure deal had nothing to do with Kevin losing and it's just a good business decision on the part of ROH. Now at this point were at a lose if it's not anything on camera or off camera then why did Kevin Owens push stop. Well this begs the question did his push really stop or is it just WWE fans jumping to a conclusion. I asked Pepper Brooks from The Altered Angle this question and here's what he had to say: "I don't necessarily think that Owen's is finished with Cena. They could be giving these 2 guys some space, since they have had matches at the last 3 PPV's. What if Owens' costs Cena the match at Summerslam vs Rollins? That puts him right back on the top of the card, to restart his feud with Cena." A different take on a match that I think could use an ending like this to shake things up, but I also believe that Rollins needs to beat Cena as a way to add credibility to a lack luster reign. Well in conclusion I think it's fair to say that for those who think Owens push is over you may have jumped the gun and need to wait & see what happens next. Thank you to the guys from The Altered Angle podcast for tossing their two cents on this topic, and making this post a little different then all the other ones.
