Though this isn't a continuation of a series it is the third time I have spoken about WWE and the ratings lull they have been in recently. Last week I asked certain followers and now I'm looking for more followers to express their opinions on how highly companies view ratings. Now to keep with the point of this post let's move to what the followers had to say:
Question: Do you think that companies rely to much on that rating point and not enough on other things that may matter just as much?
Drew: (RingRap.com & Ring-Rap Audio) Yes. They are catering strictly to advertisers and not the fans who will ultimately make a difference. Lose the fans, lose the rating.
ATWRadioTweets (All-Things Radio) I think there are a lot of factors that determine a companies success in this generation of television. With the increasing popularity in streaming services such as Hulu, Netflix, and of course, the WWE Network, people aren't in as much of a rush to watch programming live. So, no I don't see a company such as WWE reading too heavily into their ratings. But with that being said, when the viewership is slipping as much as it is right now, it's definitely a cause for concern for Vince McMahon and his product.
Your Wrestling World (UWrestlingWorld): Yes I think they worry to much about the ratings, I think maybe if they put more time and effort into the shows the shows would be more watched and the ratings would go up solving any ratings problems. A lot of times when raw goes against Monday Night Football wrestling ratings will always be down because people watch football live and record raw to watch later, regardless of what happens the ratings will never be like they was in the 90's.
PWVoice (Pro-Wrestling Voice): Companies definitely rely too much on ratings! If you look at NXT hunter isn't bothered about ratings there (maybe is more so now) but was interested in doing feuds that would highlight and create huge talents and it worked beautifully! Seth, Owens, Zayn, Neville, Big E, Kidd are all examples! If Hunter took charge ratings would take charge, not cause he needed them to but because he knows what we want!
Bill (http://www.1wrestling.com): Well, that's a real good one! Without a doubt! Give the fans what they want, not what you think your sponsors think they want to see. Watered down product is a boring product. EXAMPLE: VKM had complete creative control of this past Sat's MSG EVENT. It was good, but I guarantee Weds TAKEOVER:RESPECT with HHH calling the shots will be waaay more entertaining to PRO WRESTLING FANS! Go back to BEAST FROM THE EAST Lesnar special from Japan last year...KILLED the MSG show. So sponsors are important but I bet your house cat & your cowboy hat they'd care less for a bit more risqué or violent RAW with a over 4.0 consistently growing ratings than the falling to 3.? ratings that are happening now.
