So they day that we have building to since January has finally past and now it's our chance to look back in awe at the first ever event in All Elite Wrestling history. Though a lot of fans have been shoveling the praise onto AEW and exclaiming that a war is upon us let's not rush into something and just step back it was their first event. In my opinion, we need to let AEW establish their own identity first before trying to figure out how they measure up against with WWE. As far as the show I think that the main event was picture perfect as it was the right choice to headline the event. Don't get me wrong Cody vs Dustin was an incredibly emotional and a "bloody good" match pun intended. The embrace between Cody & Dustin was one of the best moments of the year in the world of wrestling period. Jumping back to the main event I will explain why it was so good it was so good that at one point that when they set up a table at ringside I got so lost in the match that I forgot the table was there until they went through it. I also enjoyed that they chose to end the match with the "Judas" elbow which is Jericho's new finishing move and was the perfect way to put it over.
However, following the match the event didn't end after the pin-fall instead Jericho grab a microphone and demanded a thank you. Jon Moxley would answer the call and make his shocking debut with All Elite Wrestling and proceeded to drop everyone with his DDT. Mox would even drop Kenny Omega with a DDT on the top of the poker chips that were at the side of the stage. I am happy that all the rumors of what he will do next can stop and we can focus on Jon Moxley becoming the star that he should've been in the WWE, but was never given the freedom to do so. Overall this was a solid show and a positive start for All Elite Wrestling and now we look to the next event which is Fyter Fest on June 29 live from Daytona Beach, FL to see if AEW can continue to build in the right direction. Till then we just have to wait and see what happens next!

Double or Nothing
Buy-In: Sammy Guevara vs Kip Sabian I think that this match is on the Pre-Show of the event and with that being said I will treat it like I do the WWE Pre-Show matches. Either way I think Sammy will get the victory tonight. Britt Baker vs Kylie Ray vs Nyla Rose I have only seen a little bit of Britt Baker before, but have never seen any action from these other two ladies. This match is very hard to predict as I will have to just base my opinion on how they were portrayed on Road to Double or Nothing. Considering the fact that Brandi Rhodes will likely eventually enter the ring and even though we likely won't hear anything about a Women's Championship just because it will take time. I think I could see Kylie Ray getting a surprise victory as I believe she is one of the lesser known competitors and could use the rub. #Strong Hearts vs So Cal Uncensored The reality is the outcome of this match would be based around if Kazarian, Scorpio and Daniels are going to be active competitors or just executives. Of the three talent I know that Daniels holds an executive position within the company and being the oldest of the three could be wrapping up soon enough. It would also be dependent on if the Strong Hearts are going to be sticking around in AEW or will it just be a one time deal or not. With that being said I am going with So Cal Uncensored getting the victory tonight. Casino Battle Royal: Winner Earns Future World Title Shot Even though I do believe that a few surprises will be entering into the battle royal as well, but I will not be offering predictions based on the possibility of who could show up. There have been a number of rumors going around recently about certain surprises showing up and I will just leave it with that. Based on the participants that are announced currently I would put my stock in either Jimmy Havoc or Joey Janela. This again would be dependent on who they plan on elevating up the card in the future because we all know that they have a long term plan for booking. Aja Kong, Yuka Sakazaki & Emi Sakura vs. Hikaru Shida, Riho & Ryo Mizunami I will be keeping this short, because I feel like it this more than any other match is being used as a special attraction match based on all of these women being from Japan. Considering the fact that Aja Kong is the only female I've heard of in this match I will be giving her team the victory. Best Friends vs. Angelico & Jack Evans There is no doubt that this match will be a very good match as all three of these men are extremely talented, but again like the Women's match it will be a while before the tag titles are placed in the spotlight so they will maybe set the stage for one of these two colliding with the Bucks or Lucha Bros. Honestly either of these teams would have spectacular matches with the Young Bucks this is the toughest decision for me cause it could either way. I think that Best Friends will get the victory tonight because of the way I think they will go in the other tag match. Dustin vs Cody In my opinion the WWE would've been better off never doing the match rather than giving it the build that they did. In a way they never did Dustin vs Cody as it was well you know that other gimmick vs Goldust. Since the announcement came down a few weeks ago I have been looking forward to this match just based on the style of build. The build for this match has really stuck out as a totally different feud then any other feud we have seen in recent wrestling. Dustin will take the victory as a form of awakening that he has done it all in his career now and can hang it up if he so chooses. AAA World Tag Team Championship: The Young Bucks (c) vs. Lucha Bros Until today I didn't know this was going to be a match for the AAA Tag Team championships as this does raise the questions for the match. The reason for this is if AAA will let them decide the title change or if this was something that had been planned to allow a special switch on the big event sort of the way that they did it with the NWA World title at All In last September. Earlier I mentioned that the winner of the Best Friends vs Angelico and Jack Evans match would likely meet one of these teams next and that's why I selected the Best Friends. With the AAA title's aside I think the Lucha Bros will win to both establish them as the bad guys and also set up a fresh match against Best Friends at a later date. Mind you the Bucks will be booking AEW so I am unsure how active they will be in the ring or maybe that will change once the show comes to TNT. Chris Jericho vs Kenny Omega (Winner Earns Future World Title Shot) The rematch everyone has wanted to see after they fought a year ago at Wrestle Kingdom. I have mentioned before how much I like Jericho's new entitled character as it is almost like an effortless gimmick for him which makes it even better. Right now we are starting from square one this is the first ever event in All Elite Wrestling and they will have the chance to set up there universe how they see fit. In my opinion this match can go either way with both men have legitimate reasons to get the victory. I think that Chris Jericho is the stable choice, because even though Kenny is a proven commodity he has proven that over in Japan and has not yet reached that point in the States, but he will. I would also be interested to see Jericho fighting the winner of the Casino Battle Royal for the title considering Jericho's status how he could immediately establish a new star with one match if they need him to. It was rumored last month that wrestling could be finding it's home back on a station that formerly housed wrestling for over twenty years. Some fans may not be aware of the previous history that Turner Broadcasting had with wrestling other than it's association being World Championship Wrestling's parent company. Prior to WCW being on the network other wrestling companies called another property under the Turner umbrella home they include: Jim Crockett Promotions, Georgia Championship Wrestling, Universal Wrestling Federation, and World Wrestling Federation.
Originally WTBS was the home of wrestling in the early decades; but World Championship Wrestling wouldn't find a home on TNT until Monday Nitro was put on the table. From there wrestling went hand and hand with TNT until the end of the company in the spring of 2001, this also lined up with when both TNT & TBS were changing directions. Remember "We Know Drama!" In my opinion, a Turner property was the last place that that I thought AEW would end up based on their past in the wrestling business. Not much is known about the deal other than it does leave the door open for social media opportunities with Turner Broadcasting owning the Bleacher Report. The opportunities will begin on Saturday with Double or Nothing actually streaming on Bleacher Report Live. Overall trying to figure out how it happened is unnecessary and would be a waste of time, because it being beside the point and the fact that I should just focus on them being on television. It is incredible to think that this fall we will have wrestling on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and I believe Friday with Smackdown moving back to the old day. Even though WWE & AEW will not be colliding head to head it will still change the wrestling world just based on another company will be on television and will be very different then the WWE. From here we need to wait and see what happens, but everything begins on Saturday May 25, at the MGM Grand Garden Arena for Double or Nothing. At this time we are almost a week away from the build finally reaching it's end when May 25 because the biggest day in the history of modern wrestling. For the last twenty years wrestling has been pretty much been a one company show, but back in January a new horse joined the race. It was announced during a press conference that All Elite Wrestling has officially become a promotion with the financial backing from the Khan Family specifically Tony Khan. Back in September of last year we saw an incredible sight when for the first time in nearly two decades a company not named WWE sold out a 10,000 seat arena. Chicago played home to All In and with the success of the event it was the birth of what would become All Elite Wrestling. I am sure that Cody, Young Bucks, Brandi and others who have been directly involved in building this can't put into words how it feels to be this close to the final product. I for one am very excited to see what all this build will bring us on May 25 from MGM Grand Garden Arena. In my opinion, coming up on May 25, 2019 the wrestling business will change forever and even though we can't go back to a Monday Night War things will definitely change for the better when the MGM and even more so Las Vegas become All Elite. |
