In last week's episode we finally got an answer to why Shawn Spears attacked Cody at Fyter Fest and it was unlike anything we have seen before. In modern wrestling fans know what goes on backstage and they know the terms so using some terms in a feud isn't a bad idea if you do it to educate rather than point to out what most already know. Seeing Tully Blanchard playing big part in this feud and using the history he has with Dusty as the reason for his inclusion makes so much sense and it allows for a legend that has never really been given the spotlight to have has moment in the sun. As for the announced match I like how one of the main focuses of Janela during the scuffle was the fact that he's 0-2 in AEW. In my opinion, just that little bit of subtly is enough to show how much more important wins & loses already are in AEW compared to another wrestling company. Lat but not least Moxley vs Omega! You can tell his confidence is back and that he is happier having control then he was when he lost it. Moxley is one of the best pure promo guys in wrestling, because when he talks you believe it. At All Out, Jon Moxley will show exactly why he is underrated.

Road to All Out: It All Begins7/21/2019 There is no doubt in my mind that next to their debut episode on TNT this October the upcoming event in Chicago for AEW will be their biggest show yet. The event titled All Out will be the event for All Elite Wrestling and they have been pulling out all the stops for it. Starting off with highlights from the last two events putting into perspective just how much emotion has gone into each event so far the videos did there jobs. Moving to a bit of throwback with the AEW Control Center with Tony Schiavone was something I would like to see them do in each episode as it lets the spotlight shine on a specific talent or feud for a little longer then they had in past episodes. The part everyone wanted to see Shawn Spears finally breaks his silence and explains why he attacked Cody at Fyer Fest in June. I have to say much like Hangman Page this was the best interview that Shawn Spears has ever done. Page showed emotion like he had never before and looked like he wanted to kill Jericho and Spears was smug, and had no remorse. Spears explained his reasons for attacking Cody and honestly I think this is the most modern wrestling feud there is far none, because of the underlying idea (For his explanation watch the video). Spears and Cody will not have a fight at All Out they will have a war at All Out in August and it will just be the beginning. The reason might be known now as to why, but the chair shot made it personal and that's what will get this feud to a whole other level. I am still speechless by the arrival of Tully Blanchard and can't wait to see where this goes.

Update: Manage to Spear a Push7/18/2019 A few days ago when I spoke about my thoughts on the "Fight for the Fallen" event one of the negatives that I pointed out was that even though they are attempting to make Shawn Spears into a big deal there was something missing. Some talent may have the gift of gab and others may posse the ability to talk but not well enough to rise to the main event. I feel like as a WWE competitor Tye Dillenger did have charisma, but not enough to bring him to the next level. Think about the reactions that Tye would get during his run especially when he was done in NXT and he would soak it in every time.
Fast forward to his arrival in All Elite Wrestling it is clear the former "Perfect 10" is no joke now and is a legitimate wrestler that has cut out his past character. I mentioned earlier in the week that Shawn should've been given promo time before his six man tag match to further push his feud with Cody and explain why he attacked him at Fyter Fest. However, taking a second to think about it sometimes keeping him quite is a better way to push the feud then going the traditional route. Also the reality is Shawn isn't the best at talking, but he could be in the near future. I have been seeing that Shawn Spears will be likely given a manager to help him, and the right manager will bring him to another level. Right now AEW is in need of another top singles heel other than Chris Jericho and giving Shawn Spears a manager could give them exactly that. I want to point out that even though MJF has been a bright spot for the company on the last few shows, but is still proving himself on a larger scale, but will be a top star in the future. As for who could be Shawn's manager well for that we will all have to tune into the upcoming Road to All Out series that will be starting soon.

Fight for The Fallen Thoughts7/16/2019 As the third show for AEW has now come and gone I think it's fair to say that the company has developed a reputation for having a lot of solid matches on their shows with some minor hiccups like any other company would during an event. I don't think there is any doubt that CIMA vs Kenny Omega clearly stole the show last weekend as they tore down the house in Jacksonville. CIMA is one of the wrestlers I remember from the short time back in the day when I use to watch Dragon Gate USA and it seems like he hasn't lost a step. Omega I don't have to explain everyone knows that Kenny is one of the best wrestlers in the world today and always finds a way to step up when it matters.
As far as where the show missed I think you'd have to point to two spots the first being the six man tag match with Shawn Spears and MJF. I feel like the company wants Shawn to be a bigger star then he can be and even though I do think they can stretch the Cody feud as a way to give him a run on top I don't think it'll last. I also think he should have been given some time to elaborate on why he attacked Cody instead of trying to play upon a pre-existing relationship that not everyone knows about. The other spot that I thought was missing something was the segments with Jericho & Page even though they did what they could to hype the upcoming World Title match in August. I feel like the fact that Hangman is an unproven main event talent is on fans minds and might put extra pressure on the match. Jericho's promo was missing something and felt like he was just waiting for Hangman to run in rather than having it seem unexpected. I know this might be a little nit picking but I feel like run-ins should feel more organic then expected in wrestling. In my opinion, the next event for AEW will be there biggest event yet next to Double or Nothing as All Out has two marquee matches for the event and I can't wait for the Road to series to begin.

The time draws closer and the days continue move forward as the next event is almost upon us and it will be a very big event. Now don't get me wrong the biggest event for AEW is still to come that being All Out in August, but the amount of raw emotion tied up in two matches on this show makes it a different type of event. Normally it seems like today the emotional aspect of a feud is left out of the picture and companies rely on the idea of good vs evil far to often. The emotional aspect can raise the intensity especially if it's something that the fans relate to it gives a feud more depth and just another reason for fans to care. Even though this pairing with Dustin & Cody seems like it will be a one time thing it doesn't change the idea that they could win. I believe that every veteran deserves one last run and not one just as a comedy act if they can still compete at a high level let them, because it will only help the company. Since his return five years I have thought that Dustin has deserved the opportunity to compete a high level one more time and this is his chance to show he's never lost it. As far as Brandi vs Allie they are raising their match to a new level, because they are playing to how fear can stop you from trying and opening the door of emotion. For an event that had only a few weeks to build I must say I do care about a lot more of the matches on the show then I thought I was going to. Either way this weekend is going to be a busy weekend for wrestling fans with one PPV on Saturday and one PPV on Sunday. Which will you be watching?

Back at Fyter Fest on June 29, we saw the former Tye Dillenger now Shawn Spears attack his good friend Cody Rhodes. However, Spears didn't just attack Cody he swung a chair and hit him right in the head; it has been a long time since I've seen a chair shot to the head due to the negative effects that it could have on a wrestler. I do think that cause of the rarity it happens now it is a good source of heat, but if your going to rely on a relationship that it known about behind the camera then it should be established previously rather not. After watching episode 2 of the Road to series it feels like they are going to go for the slow build for this feud instead of trying to run it into the ground early. I think that is the best way to go as it would give the company time to establish the relationship and how personal it needs to be over time rather than instantly. Done right in my opinion, this could be one of the hottest feuds in wrestling and the right thing to get momentum going for AEW. Speaking of personal the ending promo by Brandi about her career in before joining and after joining wrestling and how she views her upcoming match with Allie was well abnormal. See I never thought Brandi was a good promo before this, but after seeing the feeling and emotion she had my opinion has changed and it's clear that she has a lot potential in wrestling. |
