This Day in Wrestling History: 3/31/193/31/2019
I remember when Kris Travis tragically passed away after losing his fight with cancer it was amazing to see how many he touched in the wrestling just a short time. The amount of outpouring well wishes about Kris shows that good people do exist even in a business like wrestling. I for one have never seen Kris compete, and all I know about him is that he must've been special for every to say nothing but good things about him.
As always wrestling gives us both great memories and memories we try and forget, but with the amount of moments worth remembering that have happened we are bound to forget some. The same could be said about some talent that were very much underrated during their career or never at the top of a company during a run this unfortunately makes it easier for fans to forget certain talent. These two are very different talent and had two very different careers while they worked in this great business. Also sometimes we encounter those that deserve to be remembered and acknowledged. I would like to wish a very big Happy Birthday to all who are celebrating their special day today and especially to the one featured below.

Promo or No Promo3/11/2019 Recently we have seen a lot more promos with a limited script specifically members of the WWE roster, but I do have an issue with how the promos have gone. Now there is a difference between a real shoot promo and a promo with a limited script. For example, a shoot promo was seen often in the latter years in WCW with Vince Russo and Scott Steiner cutting so many that they really lost any meaning. In WWE though they never let the talent have such freedom to say whatever they want to on television for obvious reasons. Looking at the CM Punk promo from 2011 and comparing that with Triple H and Ronda's recent promos the after effect was felt for years after Punk's promo, but the same wouldn't be said that about the recent promos on WWE TV.
The difference between the recent promos and Punk's promo is the fact that what Punk said was everything we were saying; but recent promos are more focused on building up matches rather than changing the perception like the promo did in June 2011. In my opinion focusing on how wrestling is entertainment and that they are playing a character rather it being really them on the television screen. Most if not all fans who watch pro-wrestling don't have to be told that the action they are seeing in the ring is nothing more then entertainment. Continuing to point out that fact though is downplaying the fact that the talent actually do get hurt in the ring smacking their bodies on the mat. Overall there is a way that you can up the intensity in a feud without burying the profession that you make a living in. Basically what I am saying that wrestling is at it's best when it's easy to suspend your disbelief, but when you get smacked in the face over and over about the entertainment value of wrestling. I for one love the talent being given more freedom and ability to control there promos like the talent should be able to do. |
