This Day in Wrestling History: 11/25/18

11/25/2018

As always wrestling gives us both great memories and memories we try and forget, but with the amount of moments worth remembering that have happened we are bound to forget some. The same could be said about some talent that were very much underrated during their career or never at the top of a company during a run this unfortunately makes it easier for fans to forget certain talent. These two are very different talent and had two very different careers while they worked in this great business. Also sometimes we encounter those that deserve to be remembered and acknowledged. I would like to wish a very big Happy Birthday to all who are celebrating their special day today and especially to the one featured below.
Happy Birthday to Blackjack Mulligan who would've turned 76 years old
Happy Birthday to Johnny Valient who would've turned 72 years old

How I Would Book Bret Hart in WCW Part 2

11/22/2018

One thing that is unclear about his stay in the WCW is exactly what stopped the company from going with the Hart vs Hogan feud that so many fans wanted to see. At Bash at the Beach 1998 we would get Bret Hart against Hulk Hogan for the first time and it would end when British Bulldog would shockingly turn on Bret Hart costing him the World Title and effectively joining the New World Order. Then the explanation would come the next day when Bulldog with the rest of the NWO explaining his reasons for turning on the "Hitman." Hart would first have a rematch against Hennig in August at Road Wild after the first match ending in disqualification a few months prior. From there we move to Fall Brawl and War Games with Bret Hart's team against the New World Order; Bret's team would include Goldberg, Diamond Dallas Page, Ric Flair, and Sting.

We head off to the Halloween tradition event Halloween Havoc and Bret Hart going against Davey Boy Smith for the first time since heel turn. Now I do think that this match would hurt things showing Davey's age, but if anyone could help Davey Boy to a solid match it would be his brother in law. Next event would be World War III and a very different six man tag match when Bret Hart, Randy Savage, and Dallas Page would come together against Hogan, and The Outsiders.

The rematch would take place at the biggest PPV of the year Starrcade and Bret Hart would finally secure the big victory against the Hulkster. This means that Starrcade 1998 would go off the air with the Hitman finally earning the richest prize in WCW setting up all new feuds heading into 1999 with Hart as champion. Imagine Bret fighting Page, Sting, Hogan, or Goldberg for the WCW Title how different things would've been during that time if such a small change took place. Welp! This is how I would have book it and let me know what you think!!

Arquette Goes Extreme

11/18/2018

It is crazy to think that the one time punchline of the wrestling world was that David Arquette held the WCW World Title. But now 18 years after holding the title and with some actual training under his belt David Aruquette is competing in wrestling as a semi active competitor. In my opinion that is one sentence I never thought I would say, because I never actually thought that Arquette would be back in the ring let alone competing often enough to be considered an "active" performer. Another sentence I never thought I would write is David Arquette fought Nick Gage in a Deathmatch, I am not joking the one time actor turned wrestler competed in a death match with one of the more well known death match wrestlers in the world.

Let's just say the results were well take a look for yourself: I do have to say that David has not only earned my respect, but deserves massive props for even attempting a death match. Maybe he's crazier than most people thought even keeping a positive outlook about it on social media.

Turns out Death Matches aren’t my thing

The Only Article I Could Write

11/13/2018

Many times over the years we have seen many articles written about this subject and on this day I am sure you will see a lot more. It has been 13 years since Eddie Guerrero's passing shook the wrestling world and left fans wondering what could've happen. In the fall of 2005 we saw Eddie feuding with Batista for the World Title and many believed that Eddie was destined to defeat Dave for the title getting one more run. Wrestling always brings up the question of what if situations and everything that could've happen had things went a little differently.

It took Eddie a while to finally breakthrough in the world of wrestling getting his big break with Extreme Championship Wrestling in 1994. However, his run with the Extreme promotion went well enough that he would be brought in to World Championship Wrestling soon after the launch of Nitro. Eddie would be helped by the Monday Night Wars seeing his stock rise before he would follow the lead of other ring generals and head for the WWE.

Following his return to WWE in 2002 Eddie's career would really get a big push from the start. Eddie was looked as a very reliable hand in the ring normally being given runs with the mid-card titles like the European & Intercontinental Championships. During his early run he would have a legendary feud with Edge leading to some of the top matches in the early years of the brand split. I mean there is a reason that Eddie was a part of the Smackdown six which for those who may not know was a group of wrestlers on Smackdown during this time that were known for their fantastic in-ring skills. The group included: Eddie and Chavo Guerrero, Edge, Rey Mysterio, Chris Benoit, and Kurt Angle.

Fast forward two years and Eddie would move into a feud with Brock Lesnar and yes for the WWE championship. Most people never expected Eddie to get the chance to featured on the top billing for a PPV and most especially never thought that he would win the championship. At this point I am 24 years old, but I still remember the day I found out that Eddie passed away and that I didn't believe it at first. I was dumbfounded at first how it could happen and Eddie was the first time that I actually cried when a celebrity passed away. Sadly, Eddie would leave us on November 13, 2005 passing away due to heart failure and was found in his hotel room. It is incredible to think that Eddie has been gone for 13 years at this point and I still remember the day it happened. Thank you Eddie for the memories we will never forget you no matter how many years go by. Rest in Peace "Latino Heat!" Viva Mi Rasa!!!!

How I Would Book: Bret Hart in 1998 Part 1

11/10/2018

Now I know I just opened a new section called Monday Morning QB and seeing the title of this article would bring up the question exactly why I am including it here. The real reason that it is here is because I wanted to go a little bit more in depth into this booking what if scenario. For fans that might not know other then some minor highlights Bret Hart's WCW run wasn't anywhere close to where it should've been especially with him coming into the company as the hottest free agent in wrestling. With that being said this is how I would book Bret Hart in WCW 1998:

Starting January I would have Eddie Guerrero come out on the first Nitro of the year cut a promo "I've worked hard to get to where I am now and I am not willing to get my spot taken from me by some reject; the one thing that is clear there are a lot of should be retirees already we don't need another." For the next couple of weeks Eddie would continue to unclearly take shots at Bret Hart before costing him a match on the go home show before Sold Out. This would bring us to there first face to face meeting at Sold Out, but they wouldn't compete they would just speak with Eddie explaining his issues with Bret. Saying that "these fans don't care what you accomplished elsewhere your in a new place & have to prove yourself all over again. Starting with me I don't believe that you still have in you I think your best years are behind you Hitman." Bret challenges him to a match on Nitro & Eddie answers with nope this match belongs on PPV, but not tonight how's Superbrawl sound.

Following what I can only imagine would be a fantastic match we would move Bret into a feud with Curt Hennig tapping into the mutual respect they have for each other & the feud they had in WWE. It starts with Hennig & Rude interrupting Hart's praising of Eddie Guerrero following Superbrawl offering him a spot in the NWO. Hart rejects the offer which pisses both Rude & Hennig off and following a match with Bagwell on Nitro we see Bret get attacked by Konnan, Hennig, and Rude. In the build to Uncensored Bret is looking for someone to watch his back this is when Davey Boy Smith & The Anvil join in with Bret against NWO, as both are in his corner at Uncensored. Then we slide to a tag match in April at Spring Stampede with Bret & Davey Boy vs Hennig & Konnan where Bret finally gets a clean win over the NWO.

This is where things get a little more interesting in the build to Great American Bash we see Bret move up the ladder into a feud with Macho Man who has been showing signs of a face turn in recent months. It seems like this match will be evenly contested as both want to go at alone. Following Bret's victory he shakes Savage's hand and the PPV ends with Hogan staring down Hart & the newly face Randy Savage. Now with Bash at the Beach in the cross hairs Bret vs Hogan is finally in the cards. However, to avoid making this article ridiculously long like I would have to do to give this part of the story the depth it deserves look out for part 2 coming soon.
