This Day in Wrestling History: 1/30/171/30/2017 We are back again with I guess the birthday messages for some wrestlers this time around. Honestly this has been one of my favorite series to do every time, because I love to give the spotlight to random wrestlers from both the present and the past. I would to send birthday wishes to those featured below. But like always I would like wish all those who have birthdays today a very Happy Birthday and very special wishes to those who will be featured below:

This Day in Wrestling History: 1/26/171/26/2017 Women's Wrestling has always been a big part of pro-wrestling over the years, but some companies have valued the talent that women wrestler can bring to the table more than others it just happened that the largest company in America didn't value women's wrestling. This was the case for the WWE for many years as they only had a women's division on the roster as a filler and mostly a joke, but from the word go TNA has always valued their women's division. Since the start of a "revolution" the WWE has seen numerous extremely talented women's wrestlers join the roster and make an impact on National TV effectively changing the perception of women in the WWE. However, due to the rough couple of years TNA has had there progressive style of knocking down gender stereotypes in wrestling and changing the perception of how to view women in a major company was lost on most wrestling fans. Two women who helped their respective companies build a new era of women's wrestling are lucky enough to be celebrating their birthdays today:

This Day in Wrestling History: 1/22/171/22/2017 Normally these posts are very happy and about good things, but every now and again I like to mix things up and keep you all guessing. That is why I am not just giving the birthday boy the spotlight but also two names worth mentioning unfortunately passed away today so I felt I should give them the spotlight as well. With that being said I want to wish a very Happy Birthday to the legendary Tag Team wrestler and WWE Hall of Famer Tully Blanchard. As for the other talent I also felt the need to honor both Al Costello and Jerry Blackwell today as they are both well known legends of the territory era. Jerry was best known for his time in the AWA with Verne Gagne, but actually got his start with the WWWF and would be one of the many challengers for the WWWF World Champion Bob Backlund during his run. Sadly, Jerry passed away on this day 24 years ago due to injuries he sustain in a car accident back in December 1994. Costello on the other hand was first to hold the nickname of "The man of a thousand holds" due to how innovative he was in the ring. But as a wrestler/manager he is best known for his time in the Fabulous Kangaroos as the Australian would carry the gimmick with him for over 30 years and made it work with anyone he was partnered with most famously with Roy Hefferman as the Kangaroos. Unfortunately, Al would pass away 17 years ago today leaving a lasting legacy as a legendary figure of pro-wrestling behind him.

This Day in Wrestling History: 1/20/171/20/2017 Wrestling gives us both great memories and memories we try and forget, but with the amount of moments worth remembering that have happened we are bound to forget some. The same could be said about some talent that were very much underrated during their career or never at the top of a company during a run this unfortunately makes it easier for fans to forget certain talent. In this case I have picked two names that had very different career paths and went down very different roads in the wrestling business. I would like to wish a very big Happy Birthday to all who are celebrating their special day today and especially to those featured in the post below:

This Day in Wrestling History: 1/14/171/14/2017 Wrestling gives us both great memories and memories we try and forget, but with the amount of moments worth remembering that have happened we are bound to forget some. This time around I am picking two names that are from different walks of life and are at very different places in their wrestling careers. But either way as always I would like to wish everyone who is celebrating today a very Happy Birthday:

With Kenny Omega and Okada stealing the show last week at Wrestle Kingdome 11 and the news breaking that New Japan would be heading to the states for G1 Climax qualifying matches. But in all this news for NJPW most people wouldn't know that there are other companies across the Pacific in Japan. One of those companies is All-Japan and they have just as much of a storied history as New Japan just with none of the international expansion that we have seen from NJPW in recent years. Back in the day All Japan had one of the best talent rosters in the world and this match featured below gives just a little bit of proof for that, but this just four names of what was a very deep and big roster.

NJPW Coming to the States1/10/2017 Not all companies treat tournaments like the King of the Ring (Sorry WWE). As one company in particular has a tournament that in some cases tops some titles in prestige and inportance. That companies name is New Japan Pro-Wrestling and the tournament is the G1 Climax. For those who may not know the tournament is basically comparable to the WWE Royal Rumble because the winner of the tournament advances to Wrestle Kingdom in January for a shot at the IWGP World title and Wrestle Kingdom is NJPW's version of Wrestlemania.
Last year history was made at the G1 Climax event when Kenny Omega became the first International star to win the tournament in the short history of the event and this year NJPW will make history again. This is because for the first time in history New Japan will be holding events in California which will include Qualifying matches for this years G1 Climax. Specifically the events will be held in Long Beach California at the Long Beach Convention Center. Tickets aren't on sale as of yet for the events which will take place on July 1 and 2nd this year. It's been a little bit since my last DVD review but with some new DVD's in my inventory this title series will be coming back again. This time around we will look at some unfamilar territory in the Timeline series brought together by Kayfabecommentaries where they look back at the histories of WWE, WCW, and ECW year by year. The year in question is 1993 and the person chosen to relive 1993 is the "Total Package" himself Lex Luger. Somethings that were discussed in the DVD: - Leaving WCW for the WBF/WWF - Narcissus Gimmick and who developed it - Working with Bobby Heenan, Bret Hart, Yokozuna, Big Show, Flair and others - Thoughts on the WWE Hall of Fame - Provides his opinion on the Lex Express - Debut of Monday Night Raw - Provides his opinion of Jerry Lawler, Hall, Nash and others Plus Much more in another Home Run for Kayfabecommenatries. But the catch is that if you are not one for DVDs where they go step by step through a timeline of events then maybe this isn't for you. However, it was a great watch and I would likely watch it again. |
