This Day in Wrestling History: 1/22/171/22/2017 Normally these posts are very happy and about good things, but every now and again I like to mix things up and keep you all guessing. That is why I am not just giving the birthday boy the spotlight but also two names worth mentioning unfortunately passed away today so I felt I should give them the spotlight as well. With that being said I want to wish a very Happy Birthday to the legendary Tag Team wrestler and WWE Hall of Famer Tully Blanchard. As for the other talent I also felt the need to honor both Al Costello and Jerry Blackwell today as they are both well known legends of the territory era. Jerry was best known for his time in the AWA with Verne Gagne, but actually got his start with the WWWF and would be one of the many challengers for the WWWF World Champion Bob Backlund during his run. Sadly, Jerry passed away on this day 24 years ago due to injuries he sustain in a car accident back in December 1994. Costello on the other hand was first to hold the nickname of "The man of a thousand holds" due to how innovative he was in the ring. But as a wrestler/manager he is best known for his time in the Fabulous Kangaroos as the Australian would carry the gimmick with him for over 30 years and made it work with anyone he was partnered with most famously with Roy Hefferman as the Kangaroos. Unfortunately, Al would pass away 17 years ago today leaving a lasting legacy as a legendary figure of pro-wrestling behind him.
