Recently, there have been reports that for the first time I can remember the WWE doesn't hold the exclusive rights to run wrestling events in Madison Square Garden. For decades the WWE has been the only company to run events at the "World's Most famous Arena" and at one point was actually the companies home base. Early on in the height of the territory era the company running there monthly events at the Garden became a staple in the early days of the new arena. There is a reason that photos of many WWE legends like Bruno, Hogan and Andre are hung around the Garden and even why they honored Hogan a few years ago at MSG. I don't believe that I would be far off saying that without the Garden there would be no WWE.
However, tension has began to arise in the relationship following the announcement of WrestleMania 35 returning to the tri-state area and MSG not getting any of the events for the weekend. Instead of going to Garden they gave all the events to the Barclay's Center based on production cost for renting the arena. Though from a financial standpoint it does make sense why the WWE has chosen to avoid the Garden, but I can also understand the other side of things and how MSG looks at losing out on the biggest weekend for wrestling. With wrestling having such a history in the hallowed halls of the Garden I think it's fair to think that the WWE should at least hold one event in the arena. Now I was a part of the back half of Summerslam weekend last year and by the end it was clear that the fans weren't as into what they were watching as they were at the start of the weekend. I still think that the company should mix things up and make use of the excess of arenas within the tri-state. Just imagine being able to attend an NXT event in the Garden this way those that are being groomed for the future can share the same hallowed halls as such legends from the past.
